by Olblindman on Apr.27, 2010, under Blue Posts

Update – Apparently, a few people missed the announcement this morning. The X-53 Touring Rocket is now available on live servers! Check the original announcement for more details.

Icecrown Citadel Buff increased to 15%
The Hellscream’s Warsong and Strength of Wrynn buffs in Icecrown Citadel have been increased to 15%. So far, only 9 guilds killed the Lich King in 25-Man Heroic mode, 8 of them with a 10% buff, and 1 with the 5% buff.

We have increased the potency of the Strength of Wrynn and Hellscream’s Warsong buffs in Icecrown Citadel by an additional 5%. These buffs now increase total health, healing done and damage dealt by 15%. In addition, the number of attempts allotted for all final bosses on Heroic difficulty has been increased to 45.

Around Azeroth: Bad to the bloom

by Elizabeth Wachowski Apr 7th 2010 at 10:00AM

Some people are just constitutionally incapable of badassery. After spending an ungodly amount of time and money on his motorcycle, leather jacket and protective shoulderpads, Molocai of <Abaddon> on Sentinels had to ruin it by putting on a skirt and bunny ears and going to Silithus to plant flowers. It’s like completing your initiation into the Hell’s Angels and then riding your hog to your kid’s school to chaperone a field trip.

Do you have any unusual, beautiful or interesting World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? We’d love to see them on Around Azeroth! Sharing your screenshot is as simple as emailing aroundazeroth@wow.com with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next!

Remember to include your player name, server and/or guild if you want it mentioned. Please include the word “Azeroth” in your post so it does not get swept into the spam bin. We strongly prefer full screen shots without the UI showing; use alt-Z to remove it. Please, no more battleground scoreboards, Val’kyr on mounts or pictures of the Ninja Turtles in Dalaran. Older screenshots can be found here.

Cataclysm class previews coming soon

by Alex Ziebart Apr 6th 2010 at 3:04AM

In a surprising middle-of-the-night blue post, Bashiok has announced the schedule for an upcoming series of Cataclysm class change previews. The series will start this upcoming Wednesday, April 7th, and continue through to the 16th. The schedule is as follows:

  • Shaman – April 7
  • Priest – April 7
  • Warlock – April 7
  • Warrior – April 8
  • Death Knight – April 8
  • Rogue – April 8
  • Hunter – April 9
  • Druid – April 9
  • Mage – April 9
  • Paladin – April 16 (More details on this in the blue post)

This is just one more step in the deluge of Cataclysm info being passed on to us before the beginning of the encroaching beta phase of testing. Expect more and more of this in the next few weeks, because we’re certain to see it. Check behind the cut below for the full blue post from Bashiok. It’s a long one.

New Mount =)

by Olblindman on Apr.07, 2010, under Blue Posts

New Recruit-A-Friend Mount Coming Soon
Holy crap, that’s a lot of announcements for today.

Quote from: Bashiok (Source)
Beginning in just a few days, players who participate in the Recruit-A-Friend program will receive a whole new reward for showing a friend the ropes in Azeroth: the X-53 Touring Rocket, a two-seater flying mount that automatically increases its speed as your mount skill improves (up to 310% speed if you already have a 310% mount). The X-53 will be replacing the current Zhevra mount reward, which is retiring from the Recruit-A-Friend business after a good run. If you’ve already claimed a Zhevra (or claim one prior to the change), you’ll be able to hang on to it, of course. We’ll have more details on the new Recruit-A-Friend mount once it becomes available.

A quick and dirty guide to rage normalization for bears

by Allison Robert on Apr 7th 2010 (2 hours ago)

I started playing after Burning Crusade launched, so I don’t have any personal history with the rage normalization fiasco that happened in the transition to BC. I’m told by old warrior hands that it went something like this:

Blizzard: We’re normalizing rage.
Warriors: What does that mean?
Blizzard: It means that normally you won’t have any.
Warriors: … oh.

Right now, all of what we know concerning rage normalization for Cataclysm can be found in this post here. I won’t repeat stuff we already know but try to look into how the changes will affect bear tanking. Rossi covered the expected effect on warriors yesterday, and while we share a number of these changes, there are a few wrinkles that I expect will have a specific impact on bears.Read more →

New scam targets the WoW Launcher

by Matthew Rossi Mar 31st 2010 at 11:00AM

A post in the official forums today, later confirmed by a blue, points to hackers attempting to take advantage of a new avenue to attack the user — the World of Warcraft Launcher.

As you can see from the screenshot above (large version here) the real launcher apparently is replaced with a fake launcher that sends the user to a web site that pretends to be official, asking for subscription information (including answers to secret questions and the original CD-Key) in what is meant to appear as the means to restore a supposedly suspended account. One of the telltale signs that this isn’t legit, besides the very invasive information requested, is the version number in the upper left corner of the screen. We’re way past patch 3.1.1 — however not everyone might know this.

Ancilorn posts confirming that this is not genuine (reiterating that they will never ask for your password in such a manner, and also requesting that such things be sent directly to Blizzard if they happen to you). Goes to show that as security is increased, those looking to breach it become more desperate.
